OLSH's New third and fourth grade class
The students decorated their own puzzle piece with things that represented them then they were asked to put the puzzle together without talking. It was a great activity to build community in the classroom and got the students to work as a team. I used this activity to explain to the students that no puzzle piece is the same just like none of them are the same. They each have different interests and talents that they bring to the classroom so we need to each accept that and embrace each others talents to have a sucessful year together.
The students did a Scavenger Hunt around the Instructional Aide, Mre. Ross' classroom . This hunt was to help students figure out the classroom and find where certain materials are located!
First day and first quiz of the year, "How well do you know Miss. Epes"? Good news, everyone passed!!
Using art to get the creative juices flowing! Students were all given a sheet of paper with a moon shaped figure then had to make their own picture using that shape! Only rule was they couldn't do a moon! Some of the creative idea they had were a hot air ballon, a bunny, a parachute, a banana, a water slide, a bridge and a car!
we got together with our kindergarten buddies to learn about the Sunday mass readings. The theme of the readings was responsibility so they each held a piece of the yard to show their "responsibility" in the activity.
Mass at the church in honor of OLSH's 90th year!
Spending time with our kinder buddies again to learn about this weeks gospel theme "conversion". In the activity we showed how Saul "converted" from bad to good.
We learn how to use a stopwatch! The students timed each other doing certain task like snapping 10 times, drawing 8 squares, etc. In the last task,2 teams competed in a 100 meter relay on the blacktop!
Blessing of the Animals Prayer Service! We got to bring our pets and our stuffed animals to school to be blessed by Father Jose!
The students created hoppers using card board pieces and a rubber band. They learned how stetching the rubber band out over the card board then letting it go causes a force to make it hop!
We learned about arch, suspension, pillar, and board bridges then tried to build these types of bridges with paper and see which type could hold the most pennies!
After learning about kilograms and grams, the students were sent on a scavenger hunt around the classroom to find objects that weighed 1g, 10g, 100g anf 1 kg!
The students built their own slides then experimented to see which objects had the least friction and went down the slide the fastest.
Cathedral Catholic high schoolers came to visit OLSH and work with the students!
We closed our unit on a measurement by having students rotate through different measurements stations. The stations involved measuring length, weight, volume and time!
The whole School surprised Mr. Magaña with a celebration for his birthday in the gym!
.After learning about the characteristics of personal narrative books, the students were put into groups and given a stack of assorted books then had to identify which ones were personal narratives.
A nun from the missions visited OLSH and presented on her experience working as a missionaries.
On Halloween, students were able to dress up in their costumes. During science they got to learn about skeletons and bones then ended the lesson by making their very own skeleton outline of their hand! The school day ended with a Halloween spirit assembly!
Cathedral Catholic students visited again and helped the 3rd graders with their math stations!

The students got together to celebrate everything they are thankful for like the pilgrims and Indians once did!
After learning about how humans have used selection to create different varieties of apples, the students got to taste test a few different kinds of apples!

Christmas spirit assembly! students competed to see who could wrap up a teacher the fastest! At the end, Mr. Magana announced students from each grade who were “caught being third”. Congrats to Angel from third and Annemarie from 4th!
Christmas program!
On the last day of school before Christmas break, the students were guided in a directed drawing of Santa Claus! After that they got to decorate cookies with their kindergarten buddies then enjoy some hot coco and watch the Grinch!
At the end of our unit on area, students got to become architects and design a floor plan for their dream house!
After learning about different types of clouds, the students went outside to inspect the clouds every day for one week !
